The DHPO is a not-for-profit organization, founded by volunteer registered dental hygienists from across Ontario who are operating independent 
practices.
This association is run by members for members as a primary resource for information, knowledge exchange, professional development and practice enhancement.
It is the members that determine the focus and activities of the organization. These practicing RDH’s determine DHPO policy on behalf of all members. Under their guidance and direction, marketing strategies, annual budgets, strategic plans and committee work is implemented.
Various working group initiatives are currently underway such as committees for public awareness, membership, professional networking, and social activities. The executive is comprised of : President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The establishment of the DHPO has been achieved through the dedicated efforts of our founding members.
Membership in the DHPO provides a number of benefits to Independent Dental Hygienists including, but not limited to:
• Support network of other Independent Dental Hygienists with access to a wide-range of dental hygiene related materials, seminars, and workshops available for further training and advancement.
• Access to our association communication network and representation on our website
• Access to joint marketing and public awareness initiatives
• Lobbying organization to advocate on behalf of its members with government and non-governmental agencies
• Collective buying power with other DHPO members for commercial services, supplies, materials, marketing, etc
