THE MISSION OF THE DHPO IS TO PROVIDE INCREASED PUBLIC ACCESS TO PREVENTIVE AND THERAPEUTIC DENTAL HYGIENE CARE. AS SELF-INITIATED PROFESSIONALS, WE PROMOTE AWARENESS OF THE LINKS BETWEEN ORAL HEALTH, TOTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS.

FACT – The Dental Hygiene Practitioners of Ontario are improving access to quality oral health care for all people in the province of Ontario. The public can choose “where and when” they receive dental hygiene services. This client-centered system allows dental hygiene services to make their way into less-serviced areas: mobile practices, rural centers, community health centers, cultural communities and stand-alone dental hygiene clinics.

FACT – There will be an increase in the number of people in Ontario who will be screened and assessed for oral health problems which will have a direct impact on the overall health of people in Ontario.

FACT – Heart disease, diabetes, stroke, low-birth weight babies and other health conditions have been linked to poor Oral Health. Improving oral health will improve general health and wellness.

FACT – The Dental Hygiene Practitioners of Ontario are a dedicated group of experienced dental hygienists whose shared vision is to improve access to dental hygiene care services. We are primary health care providers who are part of integral part of multidisciplinary health care team for clients.
